PSM Certification and Training FAQ's

Professional Scrum Master (PSM) is an abbreviation for the job function of a facilitator for an agile development team. The Scrum Methodology is based on key ideas that allow a team to self-organize and respond swiftly to tasks and situations. A PSM (Professional Scrum Master) serves as a servant leader and facilitator for a Scrum team, implementing Scrum best practises, tools, and skill sets to ensure success. To enrol in the Professional Scrum Master certification course, you must have prior Agile/Scrum experience. As part of the programme, our training partners who are Scrum.org Professional Scrum Trainers (PST®) will offer you pre-reading materials and instructions.

No two days are the same for a Scrum Master, but there are definitely some similarities. Most importantly, the Scrum Master is responsible for defending the team and organising the Team’s backlog.

The day usually starts with a stand-up meeting to help Coordinate and assess progress made since the last stand-up. This is also an important time for any Quick Concerns that need to be raised.

Morning activities are mostly focused on the team. This can involve helping to answer any questions they might have or working with them on backlog refinement sessions.

Once the afternoon hits, the focus usually turns to more strategic tasks. This might include planning for upcoming sprints, working with other teams to remove any dependencies, or attending different meetings.

To plan for upcoming Sprints, there are product backlog review meeting and ensure that it is ready for the next sprint. This might involve adding more detail to user stories or splitting larger items into smaller ones. Reviews sessions are done with the product owner to ensure that the backlog is still aligned with the business goals.

After lunch, issues related to the next sprint liked any planned absences and ensuring that there are enough people available to complete the work.

There are meetings with the developers if they have any concerns to ensure that they are not overloaded. And if there are any, they need to be relayed to the product owner.

He/she needs to work with other teams to remove any dependencies. This can involve coordinating work between different teams or attending meetings on behalf of the team. The Scrum Master needs to make sure that all dependencies are managed so that they do not become a blocker for the team. Work with the product owner to understand what the priorities are for the upcoming sprint and ensure that these are reflected in the product backlog.

Evenings are spent preparing for the next day, as well as documenting any decisions made during the day. The Scrum Master prepares documents by Planning out the tasks for the next day. The Scrum Master’s Day usually ends with sending out a daily stand-up email, which includes information on what was accomplished today, what will be worked on tomorrow, and any barriers that need to be addressed. This email is sent to the team, as well as any other stakeholders who need to be kept up-to-date on the project’s progress. This is important to help ensure that everyone is on the same page and knows what needs to be done moving forward.

The PSM certification will assist you in creating a simple framework for improving teamwork, communication, and speed in complicated projects. The team can self-organize and make the necessary modifications to the project using the Agile environment’s principles.

  • If your firm uses the scrum framework, obtaining a Professional Scrum Master certification will aid in the development of your knowledge foundation.

  • You must have an agile attitude to work with the scrum. You will be able to teach this approach to yourself and your coworkers after earning the PSM I certification. Once you’ve mastered the scrum, you’ll be able to deliver successful project outcomes. You’ll also have stronger team cohesion and fewer disputes with your teammates.

  • Motivate the team’s Scrum developers to increase productivity.

  • In a complex corporate environment, overcome obstacles and problems.

  • Increased pay raises and incentives. In Scrum organisations, applicants with PSM certification have more top preferences.

  • Speed up turnaround time and enhance workflow.

  • Professional scrum certification helps you to expand the career opportunities across any company that follows agile practices.

The PSM exam has three levels:

  • People who pass PSM I and receive certification show that they have a basic understanding of Scrum. PSM I holders demonstrate that they are familiar with Scrum as outlined in the Scrum Guide and how to use Scrum in Scrum Teams. Scrum language and practise are consistent with PSM I holders.
  • People who pass PSM II and receive certification show that they have a high level of Scrum mastery. PSM II credential holders demonstrate that they grasp Scrum’s core principles and can use Scrum effectively in complicated, real-world scenarios.
  • People who have passed PSM III and received certification show that they have a high level of Scrum expertise. PSM III certificate holders have a thorough understanding of how Scrum and the Scrum Values are applied and practised in a variety of challenging team and organisational contexts.

The PSM Certification is the most difficult exam for determining Scrum expertise. This implies that the exam is designed to assess an individual’s understanding of Scrum. As a result, the certification is highly recognised, resulting in the following advantages for certified professionals:

  • Earn high wages
  • Prominent positions in the hierarchy
  • Switching and upgrading career to higher positions

Individuals who pass the PSM exam and have appropriate PSM knowledge in Scrum methodology are not required to earn the certification. Students who enrol in PSM training, on the other hand, have a greater probability of passing the PSM 1 certification on the first try.

The course aims to give students a complete grasp of scrum and how it works. This course does not have any prerequisites. However, having a rudimentary understanding of how scrum works in the real world can help you grasp the concept more easily. Learn about some of the most important aspects of PSM training.

Agile refers to a way of thinking about software development. Scrum, along with Kanban and Extreme Programming, is the most extensively used Agile framework.

When the “Manifesto for Agile Software Development” was published in 2001, the term “agile” was coined. The authors were the two founders of the Scrum framework, as well as 15 others who shared their perspective on software development. The manifesto emphasises the importance of delivering software that customers value early and often during the development process. This manner, based on user input, what is delivered can be altered quickly throughout development. To make this possible, developers must work closely with one another as well as with their clients.

Scrum gives a framework for working with an Agile attitude. Scrum is described in a more generic fashion, despite its origins in software development. It’s also used in fields other than software, like marketing. The framework assists a self-organizing team in completing tasks on a regular basis and in close collaboration. Throughout the development process, there will be numerous opportunities to check what has been produced thus far and to improve the way the job is done.

Scrum Master is a role that was formed as part of the Scrum framework.  A  person is a Scrum specialist who ensures that his or her team follows the Scrum methodology appropriately. The Scrum Master is in charge of fostering a culture of trust, self-organizing teams, and openness, as well as removing roadblocks to the project’s development. The Professional Scrum Master™ course does have a certification. This certification qualifies you as a Professional Scrum Master™ and allows you to improve your knowledge of Scrum philosophy, methodology, and practises.

The scrum master is the person in charge of leading the scrum team and championing the project. The Scrum Master leads the entire team, including the product owner, and gives them all the instructions they need to finish the project. They oversee the team’s adherence to agile best practices.

When a project moves from a waterfall to an agile methodology, different roles take on some of the project manager’s responsibilities. The responsibilities of a scrum master differ from those of a project manager. A scrum master cannot be a project manager, and a project manager cannot be a scrum master. The project manager may be in charge of multiple projects at once, while the scrum master is normally in charge of just one.

Yes, becoming a Scrum Master is an excellent career choice. If you’ve already worked as a project manager or an agile coach, becoming a Scrum Master is a natural progression. If you are new to agile, you should first learn the fundamentals before pursuing a career as a Scrum Master.
